length of a rectangular pen is 3 yd less than 4x its width. area is 85 sq yds. find dimensions?
Q. I am double ck my answers since hamanor10 thinks I am getting u to do my homework. My answer is 4x^2-3x-85=0, (4x+17)(x-5), which means width = 5 sq yds and length 4*5-3= 17 sq yds. Is this correct?

A. yup your answers are correct. however your units are not, length and width are measured in yards not sq yards.

A. From what i can tell you have a rectangle with a width of X and a length of X+4. You know if you divided the rectangle in half the divider would be 8 yards long. Knowing that you want to find out what X is. Here's how it is done. Cutting the rectangle in half gives a triangle with sides A, B and C, where A=8, B=X and C=X+4. Using Pythagoras you know that A^2=B^2+C^2 Therefore 8^2=X^2+(X+4)^2 Therefore 64=X^2+X^2+8*X+16 Therefore 48=2*X^2+8*X Therefore 24=X^2+4*X Therefore X^2+4*X-24=0 Next you factorize, but I'll leave that to you, hopefully this will start you off.

A. they usually have a minimum of 1 yard and then that's the time you could add whatever you like.so it can be 1 1/4yd, 1 1/2, 1 3/4. So to answer your question, you could buy 3 1/2 yds

how many yds. of pea gravel do I need to fill an area that is 125 feet by 4 feet?
Q.
Asked by N G - Fri Jun 6 16:01:22 2008 - Garden & Landscape - 7 Answers - Comments
A. Pea gravel is usually about 3/8" in diameter. You should put it on about 2" deep. On average, it is about 90 sq ft of pea gravel per ton. The would mean that you would need 6.666 tons (rounded to 6.7 tons). 1.2 tons is a cubic yard, so that would be about 5.5 cubic yards. Just to be on the safe side, I would ask the company that you are getting it from about the diameter of the gravel, as it may alter your calculations.

A. It depends on the brand - the quality, whether it's bonded, (keeps it from bearding, or working it's way through your fabric), etc.. For example, Airtex 4.4 oz. 48" x 40 yd roll costs $40, so your 10 yard roll would be about $10.

25ac. rectangular field,1320ft. one side. How many yds. of fence do you need?
Q. Why does total square footage of field divided by 1320 ft. work, when square root of total square footage of field multiplied by 4 does not, to get perimeter footage? I realize it changes the shape of the field from rectangular to square, but why would it matter?
Asked by italy son - Thu Feb 18 12:57:31 2010 - Mathematics - 1 Answers - Comments
A. 25 acres is equal to 25 x 4840 x 9 sq.ft = 1089000 sq.ft Dividing that by 1320 gives the other side = 825 ft. Perimeter is 130 + 825 and then multiplied by 2 = 4290 ft. I am not sure what exactly the remaining part of your question refers to. I hope the above procedure is clear.

Why does a Heisman candidate have to play for one of the top 5 teams in college football?
Q. The Heisman trophy is supposed to go to the best PLAYER! (In theory !!!) Not the best player on the #1 team! I am a die hard SEC fan and I am still all for CJ Spiller from Clemson winning. He is clearly the best player (19 carries 230 yds 4 TDS in ACC championship) yet gets less consideration because he plays for a lower ranked squad even though he put them in the ACC championship.

A. i agree with the last post, heisman trophy winners usually play on great teams bc there are other players around him that make things easier on the canidate, i really thought the winner of the heisman would come to surface today, i thought the winner of the Alabama/Florida game and either Ingram, or Tebow, depending on the winnging team and the best numbers, or Mc Coy from Texas. i thought whoever made the biggest statement would be the heisman, and clearly Ingram was the only player out of this group to make that statement. hard to argue with Spiller from Clemson, or Gerhart from Standford either. and after watching Nebraska play i wouldnt argue with Suh being mentioned either

A. he probably wants to keep going, or he just wants to control you. either way you should let him exercise more maybe you should get a fenced in yard and let him run around that, like my dog. then again you've had him for 4 weeks maybe he hasn't got the hang of it yet maybe all he needs is time.

How do you solve this?
Q. Mia Hamm, star of the United Stated team, has just received the ball on a breakaway. She is 60 yards from Brazil's goal. Brazilian star Sissi is the closest oponent to Hamm and is 10 yds behind her. Mia takes off for Brazil's goal and, while dribbling the ball, is able to run at a speed of 6.8 yds. per second. Sissi takes off at the same time as Hamm and runs at 8.4 yds per second. (She is able to run faster because she is not dribbling the ball.) Hamm has decided to shoot at the exact moment that Sissi catches up to her, because at that point it will still be difficult for Sissi to block the shot when she is side by side with Hamm. How far away from the goal will Hamm be when she shoots?
